What the VGT integration adds

An energy installation no longer operates only according to local self-consumption. Depending on the project, an external service provider or grid-related process may also need to send a verified power setpoint or operating command. SmartgridOne provides the local orchestration layer between that external instruction and the compatible assets on site.

The controller receives the command, checks it against the configured limits and translates it into coordinated actions for the battery, inverter or other flexible equipment. Measurements and device status remain available for monitoring, so the installer and operator can verify whether the requested behaviour was actually achieved.

From external signal to controlled asset

  1. Receive the instruction. VGT Energy sends the relevant setpoint or control request through the configured connection.
  2. Validate the request. SmartgridOne checks communication, availability and the technical limits that were defined during commissioning.
  3. Coordinate the installation. The EMS distributes the command across compatible assets while respecting device-specific constraints.
  4. Measure the result. Grid-meter data and device feedback confirm the actual import, export or active-power response.
  5. Maintain safe operation. If communication or a device becomes unavailable, the agreed fallback behaviour prevents uncontrolled operation.

Commissioning checklist for a Swiss SDL project

  • Confirm the project scope. Record which external service is used, which assets participate and which party owns each responsibility.
  • Check the metering chain. Verify phase mapping, current direction, scaling, update rate and communication stability at the grid connection.
  • Set operating boundaries. Document import and export limits, battery reserve, minimum state of charge and device power limits.
  • Test every command. Simulate the relevant setpoints and confirm both the asset response and the measured response at the point of connection.
  • Test failures deliberately. Interrupt the internet connection and device communication, then verify the configured fallback and recovery behaviour.
  • Document the handover. Save the final settings, responsibilities and test results for the operator and service partner.

Local optimisation remains available

External control does not mean that all local intelligence disappears. When no higher-priority command is active, SmartgridOne can still optimise self-consumption, manage a battery, coordinate charging stations and react to an energy contract. The priority structure must be agreed in advance: safety and mandatory grid or service commands take precedence, followed by the customer's economic objectives.

Because every site and contract is different, the installer should verify the current VGT, DSO and metering requirements before commissioning. Device compatibility must also be checked for the exact model and firmware used in the project.
